Ever wonder why I named my business In The Flow?! Yeah, I sometimes wonder how I got there too, lol. Well, let's go back to February 2022, hanging out in Costa Rica... and how it relates to the 8 Limbs of Yoga.
I knew I wanted my business name to be tied to connection. And the most important connection we have is to ourselves. We can also connect to the moment, to others, to nature, to what we are doing in this exact moment. That is where the flow state comes in. Being in your own flow where nothing else matters, time stands still, creativity flourishes, and you are fully alive in the present moment. Wow, sounds like a pretty great place to be living! And while I know it isn't always like this, there are times when that flow state exists for me. Usually when I'm moving my body (yoga, hiking, running, paddleboarding), away from the noise and distractions of the world, having a quiet mind, and truly enjoying myself. When have you felt a flow state in your own life?
So yeah, why not have a business name that is all about being in your own flow. In full connection, presence, and joy to what you are doing? That's what I want to help others experience and share. That's what I hope for you.
Now, back to the 8 Limbs of Yoga, specifically one of the Niyamas (moral principles) - Ishvara Pranidhana. Translated from Sanskrit, Ishvara Pranidhana is the surrender to the divine. Call it the universe, a higher power - it is a letting go. It is trusting in something bigger than ourselves, releasing the grip of the ego, and being open to the flow of life. It is aligning actions with devotion and purpose. It is believing in yourself and having faith, even though you don't know what will happen next.
So how do flow state, Ishvara Pranidhana, and my business name all come together? To me, In The Flow is about trusting life, trusting yourself, and letting go just enough to allow the magic to happen. It’s about living from a place of connection - where your body, mind, and spirit are aligned. It's about being bold and brave even when you feel uncertainty or fear. It is a mindset where we moving with, not against, the current of life. Flow isn’t forced. It’s felt. And when you truly felt, you realize it is REAL!
Ishvara Pranidhana reminds us that we don’t have to have it all figured out. We can show up, stay present, and surrender the outcome. That’s when we create space for grace, for joy, for inspiration - and for the kind of intentional living that goes far beyond a yoga mat.
That’s the essence of In The Flow. It’s not just a name. It’s an invitation I offer to you. Whether we meet in a class, on a retreat, or just through these words - I hope you find your own flow with connection, trust, and surrender.
