Trusting your intuition

After 74 blog posts, I've never written one about intuition. Perhaps, I've felt disconnected from my own intuition, didn't fully trust myself, or ignored what that little voice was saying. Something I'm working on! So blog post 75, let's talk intuition.

I thought it would be fun to ask ChatGPT what I believed intuition was. I use ChatGPT to check my grammar on emails, website, and more so it has a lot data about me. (kind of scary, but that's another story!) I asked, "Tell me what I believe about intuition." Here its answer:

You believe intuition is a deep, quiet wisdom that lives in the body and the breath. Something ancient, often drowned out by noise, but always present when you pause and listen. It's not just a feeling, but a truth-knowing that guides your choices when you’re aligned with your values, your purpose, and the present moment. You’ve likely experienced how intuition speaks not in loud commands, but in subtle nudges. Through energy shifts, tension, clarity, or a sense of “yes” in your heart. You trust it most when you’re grounded and open, less so when you're anxious or overthinking. You don’t see intuition as separate from reason - it complements it. You believe it’s a practice to return to, not a one-time gift. And through yoga, nature, solitude, and reflection, you reconnect to that inner voice, especially when you're holding space for others to do the same.

Wow! Does an AI tool know me that well from proofreading my blog posts and email newsletters? And why did I turn to AI to define intuition (besides being a fun exercise)? I know what my intuition is and I know I want to listen to it more. Here are some ways I am listening to my own inner voice.

  • Strengthen the trust you have in yourself. One way to do this immediately is make a daily promise to yourself - and keep it. A few weeks ago I promised I would not look at my phone for the first hour of the day. No exceptions. I keep this promise to myself so I know I can trust myself. It is simple and effective - both for building my own inner trust and for starting my day without overstimulation from tech. What is one small promise you can say out loud now and keep for yourself?

  • Minimize the outside noise and distractions. I'll sum this one up in one statement: stop asking everyone their opinion on what you should do. From Chat GPT, to your BFF, to your mom, to your co-worker, to your favorite podcast, to social media, to your partner. None of them matter as much as you do. Listen to yourself, its that simple.

  • Get still and quiet. If we are moving too quickly and not listening, we can't hear our own inner voice, the deep knowing inside of us, our intuition. Slow down, embrace stillness, create the time and space for answers to come through.

  • Meditate with visualization. This is especially helpful if you have two options you are working through. Close your eyes and imagine both scenarios happening in your head. What one feels more like you? If you act from a place of wholeness, what would you do? See yourself 6 months from now being happy, what did you choose?

  • Listen to the clues in your body. The belly, the chest, the throat. Is your belly unsettled in an anxious way? Is there a tightness in your chest making it hard to take deep breaths? If you try to say it out loud, does it get caught in your throat? Our body often knows the truth before our mind does. If something doesn't feel good in your body, take it as a sign from your intuition to do something different.

  • This is the journey... and all part of your growth. Release the pressure to get it right all the time. We are here to learn. Intuition is a muscle. The more we actively and intentionally use it, the stronger it gets.

There is this beautiful Sanskrit mantra, Sat Nam, translated to I am truth. Experience this mantra - saying it out loud, listening to it being sung, or repeating it in your head. Reminding ourself of our personal truth. Our own ability to trust, listen to our intuition, and take action from a place of wholeness and inner knowing within.
